During a two-day visit to Rabat on July 16, 2026, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and his Moroccan counterpart, Aziz Akhannouch, co-chaired the 15th Morocco-France High-Level Meeting, resulting in the signing of 14 cooperation agreements. These accords span critical sectors, including the economy, security, migration, and defence, signaling a major step in rebuilding strategic ties after years of tensions.

Key deals involve the French Development Agency, focusing on the Rabat Regional Express Rail project and a loan agreement for water policy, alongside a draft framework for scientific cooperation. Prime Minister Lecornu emphasized that France’s visa policy will now facilitate mobility for entrepreneurs and students. This visit marks a reset in diplomatic relations, which began in 2024 when France recognized Morocco’s claim over Western Sahara. Paris aims to recoup economic losses through deeper ties, while Morocco gains access to vital investment and technology.
