Kazakhstan’s $10 Billion Middle Corridor Expansion Boosts China-Europe Trade and Bilateral Ties
Kazakhstan is investing $10 billion to expand the “Middle Corridor,” a key land route connecting China and Europe, as global shipping disruptions drive demand for reliable freight alternatives. The 4,250-km corridor has seen freight volume surge nearly tenfold since 2022. Key upgrades include the new Bakhty-Ayagoz railway, set to become the third China-Kazakhstan rail port and help double bilateral freight capacity to 100 million tons by 2030.
To boost operations, Kazakhstan is purchasing 270 Chinese locomotives and building six cargo ships, four in Chinese shipyards. Logistics hubs like the Kazakhstan terminal in Xi’an are thriving, handling over 250,000 tons of cargo. This deepening transport partnership reflects strengthening bilateral trade, which reached $13.2 billion in Q1 2026—a 46.6% year-on-year increase—underscoring the Belt and Road Initiative’s role in regional economic collaboration.
It is nice not to spend your money to endless wars… isn’t it?
