Royal Air Maroc Suspends 12 Routes Due to Rising Fuel Costs
Morocco’s flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc, has announced the suspension of 12 routes to several African and European destinations, citing rising kerosene prices and slowing demand. Affected routes from its Casablanca hub include Kinshasa, Brazzaville, Yaoundé, and Libreville. Suspensions from Marrakech impact Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, and Brussels, while flights from Tangier to Málaga and Barcelona are also on hold.
The company stresses these suspensions are provisional and will be reassessed based on fuel prices and market demand. The price surge is linked to disruptions in international shipping caused by the US-Israel war against Iran. Fuel is one of the largest costs for airlines, and sudden price fluctuations can quickly erode profitability—especially on routes with weaker demand. Royal Air Maroc states the network adjustment is temporary as it navigates these challenging market conditions.
