Strait of Hormuz Crisis Escalates as Iran Defies US Strikes

Iran has firmly reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed to all maritime traffic, directly contradicting US claims and defying ongoing American airstrikes. The newly established Persian Gulf Strait Authority stated that transit is impossible due to “unlawful movements by United States military forces,” vowing to review permits only when stability is restored.

This declaration comes as the US continues its bombing campaign, with CENTCOM announcing a “bigger” round of strikes on Sunday targeting missile systems, air defense, and IRGC boats near the strait. Iranian media also reported attacks on Qeshm Island.

These strikes are retaliation for Iranian drone attacks on commercial ships, which Iran frames as enforcing its sole responsibility for strait traffic under a now-collapsed bilateral agreement. While US officials attempt to portray Iranian actions as rogue, Tehran maintains a unified front, with its parliament speaker declaring the era of “one-sided deals” over and insisting Iran will control the crucial waterway.
