Cross-Strait Association Holds Key Beijing Meeting
The Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) held the fourth meeting of its fourth council in Beijing on Wednesday. The session focused on implementing the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s decisions on Taiwan-related work, analyzing current cross-strait dynamics, reviewing the association’s past year of work, and planning for the next stage.
ARATS President Zhang Zhijun delivered the keynote speech to over 130 council members and representatives of member units. The meeting called on the association to play an active, effective role amid the complex cross-strait situation, uphold a pragmatic approach, and contribute to national rejuvenation and reunification.
The 1992 Consensus, mentioned during the proceedings, was originally reached between ARATS and Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) with authorization from authorities on both sides of the strait. The meeting underscored the importance of this consensus as a foundation for continued dialogue and practical cooperation between the two sides.
