Sudan is edging toward an even deeper catastrophe as the United Nations warns that food assistance could run out by the end of March without urgent new funding. Nearly three years of brutal conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have devastated the country, killing tens of thousands and displacing around 11 million people.

The World Food Programme says its supplies are almost exhausted and rations have already been cut to the bare minimum needed for survival. More than 21 million people—almost half the population—now face acute food insecurity. Famine has already been confirmed in El-Fasher and Kadugli, with other areas likely affected but inaccessible due to ongoing fighting. Aid agencies are pressing donors to act swiftly to avert an even greater humanitarian disaster.
