Devastating Earthquake in Venezuela
A catastrophic earthquake has struck Venezuela, with the death toll tragically rising to 3,889, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
The powerful tremors, which occurred on June 24, have also left 16,740 people injured and over 17,900 homeless. The quake, which struck in two powerful shocks of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 within 40 seconds, originated in Yaracuy state.
The physical destruction is immense, with 190 buildings completely destroyed and 856 more sustaining significant damage. Relief efforts have been substantial, with over 6,400 people rescued and nearly 29,000 receiving medical treatment. Aid has reached over 86,000 families, and more than 9,600 tons of food have been distributed to the victims.
