US Ramps Up Military Presence in Middle East After Postponed Strike on Iran
Washington is rapidly reinforcing its military posture in the Middle East after President Trump paused a planned strike on Iran, according to reporting from The New York Times. The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and several warships are redeploying from the South China Sea, a journey expected to take about a week. Additional fighter jets, refueling aircraft, and air‑defense systems are also being prepared for deployment.
US officials reportedly warned Trump that existing assets in the region were insufficient to withstand an Iranian counterattack, particularly against the numerous American bases spread across the Gulf. Other outlets say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Trump to delay the operation, seeking more time for Israel to prepare for potential retaliation. The Pentagon also cautioned that limited strikes were unlikely to achieve regime change and risked triggering a prolonged conflict.
