AFRICOM also faces controversy over a September 13 strike, where it claimed to hit an al-Shabaab weapons dealer, but local sources identified the victim as a prominent clan elder engaged in peace efforts. The US continues frequent airstrikes against both ISIS and al-Shabaab militants across Somalia.
