In his speech to the UN General Assembly, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that Tehran will “never seek to build a nuclear bomb.” This declaration comes as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany (the E3) near a deadline to restore UN sanctions against Iran, accusing it of violating the 2015 nuclear deal.

The E3 has offered to delay sanctions for six months if Iran allows full UN inspector access, addresses uranium stockpile concerns, and engages with the US.

Pezeshkian condemned the E3 for acting “at the behest of the United States,” arguing that Iran’s reduction of its commitments was a lawful response to the US withdrawal from the agreement and European non-compliance.

Echoing this stance, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also ruled out nuclear weapons but rejected negotiations with the US, calling it an “imposition.”
