Nepal is grappling with severe political unrest, marked by violent protests and systemic instability.

On September 8, 2025, at least 19 people were killed and dozens injured as police clashed with Gen Z protesters in Kathmandu, sparked by a government ban on social media platforms like Facebook and X, alongside widespread anger over corruption and economic stagnation.

The protests escalated, with demonstrators storming and setting fire to the parliament building, prompting Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s resignation on September 9. The unrest reflects deep frustration with Nepal’s political elite, accused of nepotism and mismanagement. Pro-monarchy sentiments have also resurfaced, with rallies demanding the restoration of the Hindu monarchy.

The Nepali Army has called for dialogue to restore order, as the nation faces economic challenges, unemployment, and geopolitical tensions involving India and China.
