Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has urged Western powers to stop portraying Russia as an unmitigated “beacon of evil,” arguing that global politics contains “many grey nuances.”

In an interview on the British podcast The Rest Is Politics, Vucic criticized the West for casting itself as the sole beacon of democracy while condemning Russia in absolutes. “It’s not everything that is black and white,” he stated, emphasizing different cultures and traditions. He also pointedly noted that Western countries, unlike Serbia, have chosen to leave the European Union, referencing Brexit.

Vucic’s comments reflect Serbia’s delicate balancing act between seeking EU membership and maintaining historic ties with Russia. His appeal challenges the simplified narrative of good versus evil, urging a more nuanced approach to international relations and diplomacy.
