Trump Seeks Swift End to Iran Conflict, Pressuring Tehran to Negotiate
U.S. President Donald Trump has privately expressed his desire to end the war with Iran as soon as possible, according to The Wall Street Journal. Speaking during a dinner with Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, Trump reportedly argued that ramping up pressure on Tehran is the only way to bring it back to the negotiating table.
The U.S. and Israel launched a large-scale operation against Iran on February 28. An April 7 ceasefire has held for two weeks. Multiple rounds of talks followed in Islamabad on April 11, with Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf facing U.S. Vice President JD Vance. No long-term agreement was reached due to persistent disagreements. While a new round has not been confirmed, the U.S. administration suggests consultations could resume in Islamabad in the coming days. For now, Trump remains committed to pressure as the path to peace.
