Board of Peace, Pieces, and Pipe Dreams
President Trump’s latest Gaza plan envisions appointing a two-star US general to lead an “International Stabilization Force” meant to replace Israeli troops occupying over half the territory. The proposal, backed by a UN resolution, would effectively place Gaza under US governance for at least two years.
Yet enthusiasm abroad is scarce: Azerbaijan hesitates, Turkey is rejected, and other nations fear being drawn into fighting Hamas “by all means necessary.” Ambassador Mike Waltz insists disarmament will happen, echoing Trump’s vow that Hamas will yield “the easy way or the hard way.” Meanwhile, Trump promises a “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza, though deadlines keep slipping. With Israel still striking Palestinians despite the ceasefire, the plan looks less like stabilization and more like Washington’s latest Middle East experiment in wishful thinking.
