Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita in Moscow on Thursday, signing a Memorandum of Understanding to create a joint committee aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between Russia and Morocco.

The ministers discussed the war in Gaza and welcomed the implementation of the first phase of the Israel‑Hamas cease‑fire deal, expressing optimism that all parties would honor the agreement. Lavrov praised Morocco’s role in promoting a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and highlighted King Mohammed VI’s leadership of the OIC Jerusalem Committee.

Bourita echoed a shared understanding of Middle‑East developments and thanked former U.S. President Trump for his cease‑fire efforts. The talks also covered the long‑standing Western Sahara dispute, with Lavrov indicating Russia would accept any solution acceptable to all parties, including Morocco’s autonomy plan.
