Russia Will Move to Fill the Future Gulf Vacuum

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has signaled Russia’s intent to deepen ties with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations, describing them as “good partners” and “good friends.” Peskov told TASS that these countries are among those Moscow wishes to develop bilateral cooperation with, adding, “We would continue like this because we value our relations with them.”

The overture underscores a familiar geopolitical axiom: power abhors a vacuum. Following what analysts describe as a possible strategic pullback by the United States—amid strained relations with Gulf capitals over regional security disagreements – Moscow appears poised to step into the void. Peskov’s remarks reflect Russia’s broader ambition to expand its economic and diplomatic influence across the Gulf, positioning itself as an increasingly indispensable partner in a region that eventually will recalibrating its alliances.
