Ecuador Says No to USA !

In a significant referendum, Ecuadorian voters have rejected a proposal to allow the establishment of US military bases within their country. Approximately 60% of voters opposed the measure, dealing a blow to Pentagon plans for expanding its regional presence.

President Daniel Noboa had advocated for the bases, arguing they were necessary to combat drug trafficking and violent crime. However, he accepted the defeat, stating he respected the people’s will. The vote is seen as a notable stance by a small nation against a world power.

Despite this setback in Ecuador, the US continues its military buildup elsewhere in Latin America, including reviving old bases and threatening action against Venezuela. The US also continues a controversial bombing campaign against suspected drug-running boats, which has resulted in numerous deaths without judicial process.

There is something admirable when a small country says no to world powers.
