House Blocks Push to Impeach Trump Over Iran Strikes in Bipartisan Vote
A bipartisan majority in the House voted Tuesday to shut down an effort to impeach former President Donald Trump over his recent military actions against Iran. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), was tabled in a decisive 344–79 vote, with most Democrats—including top leaders—joining Republicans to block the measure.
Green argued that Trump’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites violated the Constitution by bypassing congressional authorization, calling it an “unauthorized declaration of war.” However, the resolution lacked support from Democratic leadership, with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar all voting to halt the measure.
Trump mocked the effort on Truth Social, daring progressives to “make my day” and targeting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a vocal supporter of the resolution. The failed impeachment push highlights divisions within the Democratic caucus as leaders prioritize other legislative battles.
