Yes. But…

The Russian President stated:

“We agree with the proposals to stop hostilities, but we proceed from the fact that this cessation should be one that would lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis”

Vladimir Putin has raised significant questions regarding the proposed 30-day ceasefire, suggesting that Ukraine’s announcement to end hostilities appears to be influenced by pressure from the United States rather than an independent decision based on the realities of the conflict. Putin emphasized that Ukraine should have initiated such a request to Washington, considering the situation on the ground. During his recent visit to the Kursk region, Putin was briefed on the border situation, where he asserted that Russian forces have full control. He stated that the Ukrainian military group that entered Russian territory is now isolated and under complete fire control, making their withdrawal impossible. Putin warned that if the area is physically blocked in the coming days, Ukrainian forces would face only two options: surrender or die.

While a 30-day truce might benefit Ukraine, Putin questioned its implications for Russia. He highlighted the dilemma of whether to allow encircled Ukrainian forces to leave without consequences after alleged crimes against civilians or to demand their surrender.

Putin expressed uncertainty about how the Ukrainian leadership would respond, leaving critical questions unanswered about the feasibility and fairness of the proposed ceasefire. This underscores the complexity of the situation and the challenges in achieving a resolution that satisfies both sides.
