First LNG Tanker Crosses Hormuz Since US-Iran Conflict Began
For the first time since the outbreak of hostilities between the US and Iran, an LNG tanker has successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz and exited the Persian Gulf. The Liberian-flagged vessel, named Mubaraz, loaded a cargo from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s Das Island facility in the UAE back in March.
Marine traffic data now shows the tanker sailing past the southern tip of India, having left the Gulf 28 days ago. The transit marks a tentative but significant step toward restoring normal energy shipments through one of the world’s most critical chokepoints. Prior to this passage, the strait had become a high-risk zone amid military escalation, disrupting global gas supplies. While risks remain, the Mubaraz’s successful journey offers a glimmer of hope for resuming maritime trade in the tense waters.
