Putin Orders Two-Day Easter Ceasefire in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a temporary Easter ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine, effective from 1:00 p.m. GMT on April 11 until 9:00 p.m. GMT on April 12. The Kremlin press service announced that Russian troops have been instructed to halt combat operations in all directions during this period, while remaining fully prepared to repel any enemy aggression. Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and General Valery Gerasimov were tasked with enforcing the pause.
Moscow has urged Ukraine to follow its example and observe the Orthodox Easter truce. This marks the second consecutive year Russia has announced an Easter ceasefire, though last year’s pause lasted three days. The shorter duration raises questions about the fragility of the current front lines, as Russian forces remain on high alert for possible provocations.
