Despite escalating U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran, Tehran’s oil exports have continued unabated, with China remaining the primary destination. Since the start of the conflict, Iran has shipped approximately 12 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz to China, according to CNBC data.

Supply tracking services confirm the substantial volume, with co-founder Samir Madani citing at least 11.7 million barrels, while Kpler estimates roughly 12 million barrels since February 28. Although analysts note difficulty confirming every tanker’s final destination, Kpler’s Nhwei Khin Soi emphasizes that China has been Iran’s main oil buyer for years.

Meanwhile, the sharp oil price spike following the operation’s onset caught the Trump administration off guard, with aides expecting only a brief surge rather than the prolonged market reaction that ensued.
