Soaring EU Fuel Prices Spark ‘Gasoline Trips’ to Russian Enclave
Amid escalating Middle East conflict, European Union fuel costs have surged dramatically. Over the past ten days, prices at pumps across Germany and Poland have jumped by 15-20%, squeezing household budgets. In response, motorists are reviving the practice of “gasoline trips” to the Kaliningrad region, a Russian exclave bordering EU states.
Drivers endure hours-long queues at border checkpoints for the opportunity to fill their tanks at significantly lower prices. The savings are substantial: while a liter of AI-95 costs approximately 131 rubles in Poland and a staggering 193 rubles in Germany, the same fuel is available for about 68 rubles in Kaliningrad, prompting a cross-border fuel rush.
