China’s President Xi Jinping and Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used a phone call on Friday to signal a renewed push for multilateralism at a moment of global instability. The two leaders pledged to deepen cooperation and defend the central role of the United Nations, framing their partnership as a stabilizing force within the Global South.
Xi noted that more than a year after elevating bilateral ties to a “community with a shared future,” China and Brazil have strengthened strategic alignment and set an example for South‑South cooperation. With China entering a new Five‑Year Plan cycle, he said Beijing’s development will create fresh opportunities for joint projects.

Lula praised Xi’s 2024 visit to Brazil and emphasized shared commitments to BRICS, free trade, and safeguarding UN authority. Analysts say the call reflects a coordinated effort by major emerging economies to reinforce global governance and counter rising geopolitical volatility.
