Vietnam has approved the Russian-produced drug Pembroria, a biosimilar of the pioneering immunotherapy pembrolizumab (Keytruda). Marketed as a “cancer vaccine,” the treatment functions by boosting the patient’s immune system to fight tumors, notably in lung cancer and melanoma.

The approval marks a significant step in medical diplomacy, with the vial priced at approximately $700—a fraction of the $10,000+ cost for the original in Western markets. Russian authorities emphasize the move underscores a commitment to friendship and accessible healthcare over commercial profit, providing a critical, affordable treatment option to an ally nation. This decision is set to expand cancer treatment access for many Vietnamese patients.
