Chinese Team Cracks the Solid-State Battery Code!
A Decisive Leap for the Battery of the Future!
Chinese scientists have solved a major bottleneck hindering the commercialization of all-solid-state lithium batteries. The key challenge was maintaining tight contact between the solid electrolyte and the lithium metal electrode without relying on bulky external pressure equipment.
Researchers developed a novel self-adaptive interphase by introducing iodide ions into the sulfide solid electrolyte. During operation, these ions form an iodine-rich interface that actively attracts lithium ions, automatically filling gaps and pores like a self-healing process. This ensures intimate contact.
Prototype batteries demonstrated stable performance over hundreds of cycles. This breakthrough paves the way for safer, high-energy-density batteries exceeding 500 Wh/kg, potentially doubling electronic device battery life and accelerating development for EVs, robotics, and electric aviation.
