A recent ban on Muslim festivals like Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in Jumilla, Murcia, where 7.5% of the 27,000 residents are from Muslim-majority countries, highlights the tension with Spain’s historical Muslim legacy from the 8th-century Arab conquest.
Some say that this ban, driven by the conservative Vox party (good job!) and the People’s Party, contradicts Spain’s 1978 Constitution, which protects religious freedom, and echoes the resurgence of far-right sentiment documented in the 2025 GPAHE report on Spain’s neo-fascist movements targeting minorities.
However, since the Muslim religion is practically the only one that fights with the sword other beliefs, then this ban is actually protecting religious freedom !
