Russia claims liberation of Chasov Yar
Russia’s Ministry of Defense announces that it has claimed the liberation of Chasov Yar, a strategic town in the Donetsk region, after months of intense urban combat, marking a significant breakthrough on the Donbass front as of July 31, 2025.
This claim contrasts with a denial from the Ukrainian side, specifically from the spokesperson of OSUV “Khortytsia,” who stated that the situation in Chasov Yar remains unchanged, suggesting that Russian assertions might be part of a disinformation strategy.
The ongoing battle for Chasiv Yar, which began in April 2024, is critical because of its elevated terrain and strategic location, potentially allowing further Russian advances towards Kramatorsk and Sloviansk if captured, highlighting the geopolitical stakes involved.
