Senior Iranian diplomat Abbas Araqchi has declared that recent Israeli military actions against Iran constitute a “declaration of war,” signaling a dangerous escalation in tensions between the two nations. Araqchi, a former deputy foreign minister and key nuclear negotiator, issued the warning amid reports of Israeli strikes targeting Iranian assets in Syria and covert operations inside Iran.

Tehran has long accused Israel of sabotage, assassinations, and cyberattacks, including the killing of nuclear scientists and strikes on Iran’s military infrastructure. Araqchi’s statement suggests Iran may be preparing a more direct response, raising fears of open conflict. His remarks align with previous threats from Iranian officials, including the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), who have vowed retaliation for perceived Israeli aggression.

The warning comes as regional tensions remain high over Iran’s nuclear program, with stalled negotiations and increased Israeli pressure on the West to maintain sanctions. If Iran follows through on its threats, the risk of a larger regional war—drawing in Hezbollah, Hamas, or even U.S. forces—could grow significantly.

Analysts caution that while Iran often uses strong rhetoric, it has so far avoided full-scale war with Israel. However, Araqchi’s statement underscores the volatile nature of the shadow war between the two adversaries, where any miscalculation could spiral into broader conflict.
