The Kremlin stated on Wednesday that Russia is awaiting detailed information regarding the recent talks between the U.S. and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia before responding to the proposed 30-day ceasefire. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia needs to review the specifics of the discussions held in Jeddah, as mentioned by U.S. officials, before formulating a response. Peskov noted that Moscow is carefully examining the statements and the joint U.S.-Ukraine declaration, which outlined Ukraine’s readiness to accept the U.S. proposal for an interim ceasefire, extendable by mutual agreement and contingent on Russia’s acceptance and implementation.

Russia has historically opposed temporary ceasefires with Ukraine, citing concerns over Ukraine using such pauses to regroup and rearm. Russian sources suggest that President Vladimir Putin would be unlikely to accept the proposal without concrete guarantees, especially given Russia’s current battlefield advantage. Meanwhile, the U.S. has resumed weapons shipments and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, which could further complicate Russia’s stance.

High-level discussions between the U.S. and Russia are expected this week, with the possibility of a phone call between President Trump and Putin. Additionally, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Russia’s SVR chief Sergey Naryshkin held talks, focusing on intelligence cooperation and crisis management, though it remains unclear if the ceasefire proposal was addressed. Both sides agreed to maintain regular contact to promote international stability and reduce U.S.-Russia tensions.
