Kremlin on the peace treaty:
“Russia has its own interests.”
A potential peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine could be based on the Istanbul agreements, as suggested by both Moscow and Washington. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for Russian President Vladimir Putin, confirmed this during a press briefing, noting that the U.S. has acknowledged the agreements as a possible foundation for negotiations.
Peskov emphasized that Putin has also indicated the Istanbul agreements could serve as a starting point for talks. However, he redirected questions about U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on the matter back to the American leader.

Peskov reiterated Russia’s commitment to safeguarding its security interests, citing the ongoing “special military operation” as a means to achieve this. While he expressed a preference for resolving conflicts through political and diplomatic channels, he criticized Ukraine for refusing dialogue and even legally banning such negotiations.
As a result, Russia continues its military operation to protect its interests, according to Peskov. The statement highlights the complexities of the conflict and the challenges in reaching a peaceful resolution.
