Israel to Violate the Gaza Ceasefire Deal

Israel isn’t going along with the terms of the original ceasefire agreement.

The agreement says that Israeli troops are supposed to leave the Gaza-Egypt border corridor this Saturday. But Israeli officials said they’re not pulling out troops from the Philadelphi Corridor, which is along the Gaza-Egypt border. This obviously violates the Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas.

According to the agreement, Israel is supposed to leave the corridor this Saturday, which is the end of the first phase of the ceasefire deal. But on Thursday, an Israeli official said that won’t be happening.

According to Haaretz an Israeli official said “We will not withdraw from the Philadelphi route. We will not allow Hamas murderers to roam our border again with trucks and rifles, and we will not let them rearm through smuggling.”

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz compared the occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor to the Israeli occupation of southern Syria and southern Lebanon: “The Philadelphia axis will remain a buffer zone, just as is the case in Lebanon and Syria,” he said. He also claimed that Israel has proof, Hamas was planning attacks on Israeli soldiers, which Hamas of course denied.

It looks like the scale is leaning on the continuation of the war in Gaza. If that happens, Israel will be the one calling the shots. Israel sees an opening to wage war on the entire region, and they seem dead set on making it happen. They need someone to tell them that a gambler should always quit while they’re ahead.
